Question by Read F: Can anyone recommend a data recovery service in New York City?
I am looking for a good data recovery service (preferably in Manhattan) that is neither wildly expensive (preferably below 0), that will not destroy my hard drive. I’ve heard that bad data recovery services can actually make it impossible for you to ever get your data back. I don’t want to lose my data to inexperienced people. Thanks for any advice.

Also, if there is a company that is really good and affordable that I can mail my Hard Drive to, then that might work too.

You might want to consider this alternative to having someone else do the work:
If you’ve got a lot of valuable files that must be recovered, have a look @ ‘SpinRite’ from GRC.
Does total disk maintenance; checks cable interfaces; many deep disk checks, recovers data & fixes HDD errors; etc.

Works on Mac drives: use Spinrite first, then migrate drive & use the Mac recovery utility on the repaired data.
Does not work with newer “solid state” drives.
